Beloved by Heartland fans around the world, Cindy Busby is back where it all began. The talented actress opens up about her journey, her growth over the years, and what continues to inspire her both on and off screen.

Could you introduce yourself for those who might not know you?

My name is Cindy Busby and I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, so I’m fluent in both English and French. I’m an actress, producer, and animal lover. I’ve been a professional actor for more than 20 years and currently live in Los Angeles.

Heartland has such a huge international following. How does it feel to still be loved for your

role as Ashley Stanton after all these years?

The Heartland fandom is truly one of a kind and I’m so grateful to have been a part of a series filled with such a supportive, loyal, and passionate audience from all around the world. It feels amazing to hear such positive feedback about my performance as a beloved character especially after all these years.

You recently returned to Heartland in Season 18, what was it like stepping back into that

world after so much time away?

When the Heartland production called me after 11 years away from the show, I was genuinely shocked, excited and honestly, a little scared. Ashley Stanton has been a huge part of my life and my career, and I wanted to be sure that I could still do the character justice. As it turns out, stepping back into Ashley's shoes felt easy and like I’d never left. The way the cast and crew welcomed me with open arms was the best feeling. Ultimately, my decision to bring HotAsh back to life was for the fans. I hope they enjoy the episodes as much as I loved filming it for them.

You’ve starred in more than twenty leading roles. Which role do you feel has shaped you

the most as an actress?

Every single one of my lead roles has been a building block for the next one, so in many ways it would be unfair to say one is more important than another, as they’ve all shaped me as an actress one by one. Whether it’s who I get to work with, where I get to shoot, or the story I get to tell along the way, they’re all part of the fabric of what I bring to the table. That being said, “Unleashing Mr. Darcy” was my first experience leading a movie, so I’d say that one stands out to me, as I learned so much during that shoot about how I want to show up as a lead on a show. It’s a responsibility I pride myself in and never take for granted.

You’ve worked alongside big Hollywood names like James Brolin, Steve Martin, Lea

Thompson, Sydney Sweeney. Do you have a favorite memory from those experiences?

I absolutely adored working with every single one of these talented actors and there are so many memories to choose from. Getting to watch Steve Martin play his Banjo in the green room of  “The Big Year” is a real stand out for me, and getting to chat with Lea Thompson about some behind the scene moments from her time shooting “Back to the Future” blew my mind, as that’s still to this day my favorite movie ever.

You’ve played a wide range of characters, from drama to comedy. Is there a genre you

feel most at home in, or one you’d love to explore more?

I love getting to explore a wide range of characters with different depths in a wide spectrum of genres, but I’d say comedy is definitely a passion of mine. I love getting to be silly and make people laugh, so I look forward to getting to explore more of that in the future.

What does a perfect day off look like for you in Los Angeles?

A perfect day off in LA starts with a long morning  walk with my dog, Suzie, coffee in hand, a pilates class, connecting with friends, and making a delicious home cooked meal.

We know your rescue dog Suzie is important to you. How has she changed your life?

Suzie has been the greatest addition to our family and has changed my life in so many ways. She’s taught me to be present in every moment, find joy in the little things and be more playful. She has softened me and allowed me to unlock a depth to my sensitivities. I love how social she is and because of her I get to meet and chat with people everywhere I go. Adopt don’t shop has turned into a passion project for me and I donate all my proceeds from CAMEO to various animal rescues. I love getting to educate people on why adopting over buying bred animals matters and how it saves lives and that’s all thanks to my experience with Suzie.

What are your next projects?

I’m currently shooting the latest season of my show “When Hope Calls”, which will premiere next year (2026) on Great American Family and Great American Pureflix.
