Jordan Coleman is a rising talent in television and film who continues to expand her presence with a growing list of notable credits. She currently stars as series regular Cheyenne Barnes in Tyler Perry’s hit BET series Sistas, now in its 10th season. In the show, Cheyenne is introduced as Andi Barnes’ younger sister, an emotionally complex and unpredictable character whose arrival forces Andi to confront long-buried aspects of herself, while also revealing a deeper search for connection beneath her chaotic exterior.

We have viewers/readers in different countries. Could you introduce yourself for those who might not know you?

I’m Jordan Coleman. I’m a producer and actress from Florida!

What first made you fall in love with acting? Do you remember the first role you ever played?

Watching Disney Channel as a kid is really what made me fall in love with acting. I was always just as interested in the behind the scenes as I was in the shows themselves and seeing kids my age actually doing it made it feel possible.

My first role was in a short film with a group of USC students, definitely unpaid, but it meant everything to me at the time. It was one of those experiences that made it all feel real and confirmed that this was something I wanted to keep pursuing.

Do you remember a piece of advice from a coach or mentor that stayed with you throughout your journey?

I’ve been really fortunate to have a lot of grounded, insightful people in my life, but one piece of advice that always stayed with me came from a friend I looked up to. He told me, “I see greatness for you, but you can’t just be around anyone. Don’t get lost in the sauce. You’re not meant to be ordinary.”

At the time, I don’t think I fully understood the weight of that, but looking back, he was really encouraging me to stay focused, protect my energy, and be intentional about the path I was building. Especially being young in LA, it’s easy to get pulled in a lot of different directions.

Now, I’m very mindful of who I surround myself with. I’m constantly inspired by the people in my circle, and I actually love being the one who still has so much to learn. It keeps me growing, it keeps me sharp, and it reminds me that there’s always another level to reach.

You joined the hit series Sistas this season as Cheyenne. What attracted you most to this character?

She feels like a turning point. Not just for the story, but in how people understand certain dynamics and even themselves. I think at first, some viewers might feel like they can’t relate to her, but as things unfold, you start to see pieces of her that are actually very human and familiar.

That kind of complexity is exciting to play, especially in a world where things can easily be labeled or judged too quickly. With Cheyenne, there’s room to surprise people, and that’s always what I’m looking for in a role.

Wake Up Dead Man

Working on a long running show created by Tyler Perry must be a unique experience. What have you learned the most from being part of this production?

Working on a long running show like Sistas has been such a masterclass in discipline and efficiency. The pace is real, and there’s an expectation that you come in prepared, make strong choices, and trust yourself. There isn’t a lot of time to overthink, so I’ve learned to rely on my instincts in a deeper way. And stepping into a show at season 10, one that’s already so respected and established, really means something.

Tyler Perry has built a legacy that doesn’t go unnoticed, and coming into that space, I feel a real responsibility to honor what’s been created while continuing to build on it in a meaningful way.

You’ve mentioned wanting to eventually lead an action film. What kind of action role or character would excite you the most?

I’d want to play someone who’s both physically strong and emotionally complex. Not just fighting for the sake of it, but someone with real stakes and something driving her. I think that’s when action becomes really compelling, when it actually tells a story.

What surprised you the most about the acting world?

Honestly, the real connections. You don’t always expect it, but being on set feels like a family. Most of the time, you walk away with genuine friendships every time you wrap. Everyone is working together toward the same goal, and it’s a really beautiful thing to watch each person play their part in bringing something to life.

What are some projects you dream of working on in the future?

I’m really excited about stepping into more action work, both in film and in series. Killing Eve was a huge inspiration for me; the way it blends character, tone, and physicality in such a smart, intentional way. It actually pushed me to create my own action short, which I’m really excited to release.

I’m really excited for that next chapter. It’s something I actively prepare for every day, and I know how physically demanding those roles are, but that’s exactly what I’ve been training for.
